I am primarily a child and family photographer, that is where my heart is. Children are so generous, authentic and soulful and my goal is to capture them as they are. My job is not to simply capture what I see, but to capture what I feel. Because of this, my baby and child sessions are greatly led by the child. I prefer to take a relaxed approach, playing, singing, joking, dancing and just having fun. I don’t want to just take your child’s photo, I want to connect with them, have them open up and show me who they really are. This way you can be assured that the images I capture will be the most accurate and authentic to the child that you have grown to know inside and out.
I currently hold all of my child and family sessions on location. This can be at your home or at a location of your choosing. As long as it is a place where we can play and your child can be themselves. I do not time my sessions, however a session will typically last 60-90 minutes.
Attire should consist of clothing that you and your child would normally wear. I am a huge fan of colorful, unique and funky clothing. Portraits should be fun and creative, so dress in a way that represents you and your unique style. Stay away from logos, print and crazy patterns as they busy up the photos and distract from the subject. The traditional khaki’s and a white shirt for family portraits is a no-no. Unless your family regularly goes out in perfectly matching outfits then wear something that is more individual. You might even want to let your 5 year old pick out her own outfit, a pink tutu with cowboy boots can make a great portrait! Really, these photos are portraits of YOU, they should represent who you are, so dress accordingly. If you need more suggestions for what to wear to your photo session check out the What to Wear portion of the site.
Just remember, this experience should be fun and relaxed. Just be yourself and have fun with it and you will get great photos that will last a lifetime.
